Kay Carl ES Coach Tisdale that has got dads staying after school to help kids train for football and soccer games. With over 7 other schools involved hundreds of kids now have a chance to play team sports in elementary school. Nevada PTA is looking for a few great dads to step up and take this successful model and introduce it in your school and to your neighboring schools.

Kids have to maintain a required grade level to play and assignments must be kept up-to-date, and have good citizenship. The program has helped give struggling students excellent motivation to improve grades. Practice is held after school with weekend games with neighboring schools. A waver from parents and Nevada PTA insurance thru AIM help to make this an all around success.

We salute Coach Tisdale for all the time and energy he has put into this wonderful program, Kay Carl PTA for helping and reaching out to neighboring schools. You have changed the life's of the many students that have been involved in this wonderful program. Any dad wanting to learn more about starting a program like this at their school contact Nevada PTA or Kay Carl PTA for more information. Thanks Coach for helping raise the standards for Nevada's Children as well as us parents one game at a time.

One PTA Dad's  STORY.....I got involved because I adopted 3 boys so like most dads one day your not a dad and the next day you are, but I was a Dad of 3 very special boys ranging on age from 7 to 11. These kids needed to cross a 5 lane street to get to an after school rec. center with no crosswalks, no crossing guards, no signage. I could not change my hours at work so quit my job because I couldn't trust that my kids would manage to cross that street safely. So everyday I am at the school picking up my kids while watching other kids risk their lives crossing that same street. Me in my big white ford van blocking the view of on coming traffic as these little kids peeked around my van to see if the other cars were going to stop so they could continue to cross. I was now part of that problem I was so worried about my kids having to face, and it was then I realized it was not just my kids I needed to worry about, It was every child without a voice screaming I need help getting across the street.

I am happy to report we now have crosswalks, flashing lights and a 15 MPH school zone that has helped my school a lot. I took me over an year, with a lot of help I became that one voice that would not go away until it was safer. So to all those dad's with kids facing issues at school whatever the issue it might be happening to more than just your kids and they too might need the voice of a dad to speak out for them.

Dads bring volunteering to a new level especially when helping boys understand the importance of a good education. With violence, and gangs closing in around our schools and neighborhoods having Dads participating in activities can help make everyone feel safer while being a great role model. Parent Involvement can come in many ways and being a neighborhood dad is a great place to start.
